NEW UPDATE

On the 15th of November 2021, we launched an update for FieldSense, which among other things introduced Weather Forecasts as well as Digital Weather Stations.

In this blog post you can learn what the update includes as well as how to access the new features in the app.

The update includes:

  • Weather Forecasts
  • Assigning a favorite weather station
  • Digital Weather Stations
  • Various maps (fields, network, owned weather stations) are now unified in a single map
  • Add fields in the app
  • Toolbar in historical data is easier to access

Let’s get started.

Weather Forecasts

We have developed our own weather forecasts for farmers. We are certain that farmers who have FieldSense weather stations in their fields will receive the most accurate weather forecasts available. This is due to the fact that our weather forecasts are on field-level.

We use a method called Hardware Assisted Forecasting. This means that we use existing weather prognosis models, our entire network of weather stations and particularly the farmer’s individual weather station to calibrate the prognosis and make them hyper-local. The output is a weather forecast that is tailored to its exact location – the farmer’s field.

Our current weather forecast is extremely accurate within the next 2-3 hours. In the app you will also receive a weather forecast for the next 16 days; here you can expect a quality that matches that of other weather forecast providers.

The weather forecasts includes precipitation, wind speed, wind direction, air temperature and air humidity.

How to do it:

  1. Log in to the FieldSense app. You now see your list of weather stations.
  2. Click on the weather station you would like to see the forecast from. This will open a window where you can see the forecast.
  3. In the top ‘table’ you may swipe to the right and see the forecast for the next coming hours.
  4. Below this table on the screen you can see the forecast for the next coming days. You can see a more detailed forecast for each day by clicking on its bar.
Assigning a favorite weather station

You may now assign one of your weather stations as your favorite. This will allow you to see the forecast for this particular weather station as the first thing on the weather station list page.

You may change favorite weather stations as much as you like. You may also choose a Digital Weather as your favorite.

How to do it:

  1. When you log into the app you are met by a list of your weather stations. Here you can see ‘your own’ as well as your digital weather stations.
  2. Click on the weather station that you would like to assign as your favorite.
  3. Click on the heart icon in the upper right corner. The weather station is now assigned as your favorite.
  4. If you go back to the list you will see the weather forecast for your favorite station at the top of the list.
  5. If you wish to unassign a favorite weather station simply click on the weather station and click on the heart again.
Digital Weather Stations

We have opened up our growing network of weather stations, allowing you to benefit from the weather stations placed by your colleagues – just like they may benefit from yours.

You can e.g. connect to your neighbour’s weather station, and he can connect to yours. You may access its data as if it was your own except you can not export weather data from it.

Please notice that you may connect with up to 5 digital weather stations per weather station you subscribe to yourself. If you subscribe to 2 weather stations you may connect with 10 digital weather stations, and so on.

How to do it:

  1. When you log into the app you are met by the list of your weather stations. At the bottom of the screen press ‘Map’.
  2. You now see a map that contains your own weather stations, digital weather stations, your own fields as well as the Weather Network. If you zoom in far enough, the Network clusters will be replaced by white circles which represent digital weather stations.
  3. If you click on a white circle you will open the window where you may connect to the digital weather station. In this window you can also see how many stations you are already connected to as well as how many you still have available.
  4. Click ‘Connect’.
  5. The digital weather station is now visualized on the map as if it was your own.
  6. If you go back to your list of weather stations you will also find the station here. Next to its name you will see an icon which signals that it is a digital station.
  7. If you want to remove a digital station from your account, simply click on the weather station. In the top right corner click on the ‘Settings’ icon. Click ‘Remove device’.
Different maps are now gathered in a single map

The app has consisted of different maps which you would have to access one by one when you wanted to see your fields, weather stations or the Weather Network.

We have now gathered everything in one single map, whether it be your own weather stations, digital weather stations, your fields or the Network clusters.

This may sound very complex, but we have designed it in a way that makes it manageable.

In order to view Digital Weather Stations you have to zoom in on the map until the white circles appear.

Add fields in the app

For the app to be completely independent, it is a prerequisite that you can perform all the necessary actions in the app. That is why we have added the possibility of adding your fields in the app.

How to do it:

  1. When you log into the app you are met by the list of your weather stations. At the bottom of the screen press ‘Map’.
  2. Click on the three dots in the top right corner. Here you can manually draw your fields.
Toolbar in historical data is easier to access

When you view the historical data there is a toolbar that e.g. allows you to define the time period you wish to see data from. Until now, this toolbar has been at the top of the screen.

We have now moved it to the bottom of the screen.

Sure, this might be a minor detail. But it should allow you to check your historical data with just one hand, so you can eat your breakfast or drive your tractor with the other.

How to do it:

  1. When you log into the app you are met by the list of your weather stations. Click on one of your weather stations.
  2. When the weather station window opens, click ‘History’ at the bottom of the screen.
  3. You can now see the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. You can now access this – with just one hand.
  4. If you scroll down the toolbar will disappear. Scroll back up to make it appear again.
That is all for now.
